Q&A
What will I learn from this book?
Simply put: everything you need to know to travel without worries. All the practical aspects are covered, but we’ll also unpack the many personal challenges that all travelers will face. The book will lay to rest all the little doubts you may have before a trip — and by the time you turn the final page you’ll know that you’ve really got this!
Is the book different from your blog and channel?
Yes! Writing the book has been a completely separate project from Indie Traveller or my YouTube channel. The density of information and insights in the book you won’t get from just reading things online. The long-form medium lets me dive much deeper, cover every angle, and share many more (useful and instructive!) personal stories.
Okay, but what will I REALLY learn?
More concretely, you’ll learn how to create a realistic travel plan, save money for your trip, how to pack lighter and smarter, always stay safe, healthy, and happy on the road, meet people anywhere, keep your spirits up when plans inevitably go awry, and make the most of your time on your next adventure.
Why should I take your advice?
I’ve traveled all over the world and lived to tell the tale! Throughout my 14+ year travel career I’ve wandered all over Southeast Asia, backpacked the Gringo Trail across the whole length of Latin America, explored every corner of Europe, traveled round-the-world (hopping between continents), and more.
Is this only about long trips or digital nomading?
No, but it’s for anyone wanting to jump into the deep end of traveling. An “epic” trip can mean a long trip (and many of my lessons come from long-term travel), but it can also mean exploring parts unknown for a couple of weeks at a time. As long as you can bring an adventurous spirit, you’ll benefit from my advice!
I already have travel experience… is this still for me?
Sure! Some of the complete beginner tips you can possibly skip, but the book will still be a good warm-up and refresher on all the practical steps before travelling. Some of my stories may be similar to your own experiences… and remind you of the magic of travel.
About the author
Okay, just a bit about me. I’ve been a full-time professional travel blogger since 2012, roaming the globe looking for authentic travel experiences. My life of travel started when what was meant to be a 2-month break turned into a 2-year sabattical, forever turning me into a travel addict.
I’ve travelled all over Southeast Asia and Latin America in particular, though more recently I’ve also developed a fondness for Africa and less-visited parts of Europe and the Caucasus. I’m at 70 countries and counting (although country-counting isn’t what it’s all about for me!). I’ve blogged about it all at Indie Traveller, and lately I’ve been vlogging my travels on YouTube as well.
In the book I’ll tell you about my triumphs but also my failures from years of travel around the world. Many of the lessons of independent travel I learned the hard way… so that you don’t have to. The book has been my passion project, aiming to help other (aspiring) travellers fulfil their goal of going on an amazing adventure. I decided not to make this some kind of silly $300 course as seems typical nowadays, but to make it accessible for anyone to pick up and get inspired right away.
I wish you many happy adventures!
